Leonardo scored his first goal for the Chinese Super League (CSL) club Wuhan Zall against their foreign player opponents on Saturday.
The Brazilian striker, who has been struggling to find the back of the net this season, put away a powerful shot in the 72nd minute to give Wuhan Zall a 1-0 victory over Tianjin Teda.
It was a moment of relief for Leonardo and his team as they looked to bounce back from a poor start to the season.
The forward had only managed one goal in eight league appearances before Saturday's game, but he showed that he still has what it takes to score goals at the highest level.
The win also boosted Wuhan Zall's chances of securing a place in the top four of the CSL table, which would allow them to qualify for the Asian Champions League next year.
"It's always nice to score goals," said Leonardo after the game. "I'm happy with the result and I hope we can keep going like this."
Wuhan Zall coach Luiz Felipe Scolari praised Leonardo's performance and added: "He's a great player and he deserves to be here. He's worked hard and I'm glad he's finally scoring goals."
